Mining Our Future, Value Addition on Top
The Council for African Youth in Minerals (CAYM) was formed to bring together young people and African leaders in the mining sector to redefine a clear prospect for this sector with its various specialties, namely Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM), semi-industrial and large-scale industrial operations.
The council develops cooperation between young people and African minerals institutions in leading local content developments with a policy of economic and social development through mining and regional minerals value chains in a borderless Africa.

A Mining Site in Nigeria
Eng. Taliat at a Mining site in Nigeria. Our team moves across the continent to experience the real situation in different mining sites in Africa. It is through direct engagement with the youth and mineral stakeholders that we are able to conduct engaging program to foster minerals-led growth in Africa.
Delegate in Guinea Republic
In July 2021, Eng. Youhaness John, 3rd VP, joined the AU Commission’s Delegation to Guinea to explore Mining sites and discuss the African Minerals Development Center’s operationalization. Visits included the Campagnie Des Bauxites De Guinee, Global Alumina Cooperation, and Société Minière de Boké , focusing on Bauxite exportation via the Atlantic Ocean and future plans for Minerals Value Chains.
Artisanal Mines in Ethiopia
(August, 2015) Eng. Youhanes John visited an Artisanal gold mining in Shakiso located in Oromia Region of Ethiopia. The mission was to understand the three axis of Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) – the legality, socio- economic impact and environmental degradation.
The CAYM Mission is to support young Africans in the mining industry to transform their operations and embrace mechanization, value addition, digitization, and automation along the value chains of all minerals.
